Interviewee:lt's a really difficult balance to strike, actually maintaining the quality but making sure as many young people as possible and older people also has been a surge in the number of over 25s applying, and we take many people who areover 25.But we've got to get that balance right. It's going to be terribly difficult for usnext year。

Hostess: Given the cuts that the government announced a couple of weeks ago, andthe numbers that we know in terms of applications, where are you going to draw thatline? Are you going to have to look at cutting intake in order to maintain the quality ofthe courses?

Interviewee:We're trying to cut intake at the moment. But what it meansreis wegoing to have to be extra cautious in the number of offers we make, because wesimplycannot afford to go over our quota of the number of[places that we can offer.Because if we do, it means that we could be fined, or we just simply gutve enough money to make sure the studénexperience is right. If large amounts of fertilizer or farm waste drain intoIriver,theconcentrations of nitrateandphosphate in thewater increase considerably. Algae use these substances to grow rapidly, turning the watergreen. This massive growth of algae leads to pollution. When the algae die,they are broken down by the action of the bacteria, which quickly multiply,using up all the oxygen in thewater and therefore causing the death of fish.

Second, industrial waste. Factories sometimes discharge chemical waste intorivers. Examples of such pollutants include cyanide, lead, copper and mercury.These substances may enter the water in such high concentrations that fishand other animals are killed immediately. Third, oil S pollution.If oilentersa slowmovingriver, it formsarainbow-colored film over the entire surface, preventing oxygen from entering the water.

Fourth, warm water.Industry often uses water forcooling processes,sometimes discharging large quantities of warm water back into rivers. A higher temperature of the water lowers the level of dissolved oxygen and upsets the balance of life in the water.

大家都知道托福口语考试分为独立口语和综合口语两种。第一题和第二题属于独立题，准备时间为15秒，回答问题时间为45秒。题型要求考生就某一话题阐述自己的观点。问题会被朗读出来，同时会出现在屏幕上。第一道题要求考生根据题目表达自己的观点并解释原因。第二道题要求考生在两个相反的事物中选择一个并解释原因。
