第一篇：Maintaining the quality or increasing the intake?
Interviewee:lt's a really difficult balance to strike, actually maintaining the quality but making sure as many young people as possible and older people also has been a surge in the number of over 25s applying, and we take many people who areover 25.But we've got to get that balance right. It's going to be terribly difficult for usnext year。
Hostess: Given the cuts that the government announced a couple of weeks ago, andthe numbers that we know in terms of applications, where are you going to draw thatline? Are you going to have to look at cutting intake in order to maintain the quality ofthe courses?
Interviewee:We're trying to cut intake at the moment. But what it meansreis wegoing to have to be extra cautious in the number of offers we make, because wesimplycannot afford to go over our quota of the number of[places that we can offer.Because if we do, it means that we could be fined, or we just simply gutve enough money to make sure the studénexperience is right. So it means that maybe last year we would allow a few more people to have an offer. This year is going to betougher.
Hostess: Do you lay some of the blame for the situation at the door of the government?
Interviewee: If you look to France, Sarkozy is actually increasing the budget for higher education. Obama in the U.S. has done the same thing. 'So just slightly puzzled as to why the government seems to be utting back on higher education ratherthan pumping more money into what we think isa service that is absolutely vital forthe economy。
第二篇 ：River Pollution
If you seedead fish floating on the river or notice that the water is discoloredand smelly, you know the river has been polluted, and trerfour main possible causes for it.First, fertilizer. If large amounts of fertilizer or farm waste drain intoIriver, theconcentrations of nitrateandphosphate in thewater increase considerably. Algae use these substances to grow rapidly, turning the watergreen. This massive growth of algae leads to pollution. When the algae die, they are broken down by the action of the bacteria, which quickly multiply, using up all the oxygen in thewater and therefore causing the death of fish.
Second, industrial waste. Factories sometimes discharge chemical waste intorivers. Examples of such pollutants include cyanide, lead, copper and mercury. These substances may enter the water in such high concentrations that fishand other animals are killed immediately. Sometimes the pollutants enter thefood chain and accumulate until they reach toxic levels, eventually killing fishand other animals
Third, oil S pollution. If oilentersa slowmovingriver, it formsarainbow-colored film over the entire surface, preventing oxygen from entering the water.
Fourth, warm water.Industry often uses water forcooling processes, sometimes discharging large quantities of warm water back into rivers. A higher temperature of the water lowers the level of dissolved oxygen and upsets the balance of life in the water.
（1）建筑和地方：In this wide world, there are thousands of amazing architectures. As for myself, my favorite is undoub tedly the GreatWall. Why? That's simple. The following reasons will sufficiently ilstrate what Isay.
First and foremost, the most self- evident reason why like the Great Wall so much is b asically because it symb olizesour Chinese' s great inelligence and hard -work. It's hard to imagine at that time people can build such huge architecture. Even in modern times, it seems a mission impossibl e. What's more, it in some way improves the economicdevelopment of China because it attrac ts thousands of tourists around the world. Meanwhile, it also helps more foreigners to learn ab out the traditional Chinese culture. Anyway, llove Great Wall.
(2)动物：Who is the best friend to our human beings? With no further doubts, dogs. For me, dogs are always my friend andcomp any.
The reasons why I am so fascinated with dogs can be best summarized as the followings. As for the very first reason,it is apparently because dog is the most loyal and helpful animal in the world. There are many stories about the dog saving his master in all countries. What's more, dogs are docile and lovely.
It is said that dogs are used to watch door ssince the ancient time. And no matter old or young, people all love to keep dogs as their ideal pets. Nowadays whenour friends are becoming less and less, dog can make your best company. You can imagine what a happy picture it isthat a dog shakes its tail and barks to you when you open the door. Anyway, 1 am so proud to say that 1 am a dog lover.
Although there are many kinds of subjects, my priority is PE lesson.
The reasons why 1 am so fascinated with PE lesson can be best summarized as the followings. lt is quite convincing tosay that the most significant reason consists in the fact that it can keep you as ft as a fiddle. From my own perspective,I think health is the most important aspect to our life. By doing some exercises in PE lesson, we can not only relax fromour heavy study pressure, but also we can have a perfect figure. What' s more, when we are talking about PE lessons, itis impossible not to mention the spirit of“persistence" which we can lea rn from the games in PE lesson. You know, when we are playing football, everyone tries their best. The truth is that as long as we persist, we will finally win thegame no matter how tough it is.
