Describe a person who offered help on your study or work.

You should say:

Who he or she is

When and where he or she helped you

How he or she helped you

And explain how you felt about his or her help

Her name is Samantha, and she was my coworker for almost two years when I was working at my previous company. I think that Samantha is one of the most warmhearted people I have ever met. I couldn’t survive those crises without her. Even though I am calling Samantha as my coworker in a more general sense, she was actually more like a mentor to me since she was way more senior to me, not only in terms of age but also considering her experience. But, neither of her age nor her experience prevented her to take me under her assuring wings to train me. Samantha taught me many things at work, including the tricks to identifying rising business opportunities and building long term business relationship with clients. But what has helped me the most, in the long run, was her tips on becoming a good and confident communicator under any circumstances. Well, I feel like, with the help of Samantha, I have managed to rediscover my skills and abilities. Besides, the confidence, which I received from Samantha, has made me become a better and more efficient person, not only in my professional life but also in my personal life. I mean, for an introverted person like me, managing to talk confidently with some of the finest and brilliant business minds in the industry is no small feat by any means.

in a more general sense

by any means 无论如何

Part 3

1. Do you like helping others?

Yeah, I like it. Helping others is my innate nature. It is part of the fabric of who I am. I think it has a lot to do with how I was raised. My mother always volunteered her time to local causes and feeding the homeless. I was brought up with this value at the beginning, and it has been a rewarding part of my life ever since. Helping someone out can make me feel rewarded and fulfilled. Helping others also gives me perspectives on my own situation and teaches me to be appreciative of what I have.

2. In your view, should children be taught to help others?

I think they should be taught to help others. But being taught is not enough. Parents should create an environment where helping others feels good. Teaching is equated with telling, training, giving information. Learning happens best through discovery. One way to create that environment is for parents to invite kids to join them in doing kindness for others. Like, feed homeless dogs, help neighbors with their lawns. Focus both on the teaching of kindness and the child’s experience. If the child isn’t enjoying it, then helping won’t feel rewarding. It will feel like a forced duty.

3. How can we encourage children to help others?

One of the best ways to do this is by getting children involved in the neighborhood. Helping people children see regularly will help them form a sense of community and to see how being helpful affects other people. Encourage children to run errands or perform household chores for elderly neighbors. If the children are young, it can be something as simple as checking their mail. For older children, they can take part in more intensive tasks like yard work.

4. Do you think people are less willing to help others these days compared to the past?

Yeah, I think so. Modern people show an unwillingness to lend a helping hand to their surrounding needy people. In the past, people helped others out of goodwill and intention and were often considerate and thoughtful of others’ benefits. Yet, nowadays, assistance is carefully calculated to extract certain benefits, people tend to alienate themselves from others, let alone help them. However, it is good news to see many others are still pretty eager and try to be helpful when there is someone calling for them.

5. Do people today trust others as much as they used to in the past?

I think many people have trust issues today. It becomes more and more difficult to remain vulnerable, trusting and open to life. Today's work environment has become more competitive. People may often get stabbed in the back or lied to by people who seemed harmless initially, then it can be difficult for people to trust others again. And now there are a lot of scams on the Internet. People often get deceived.

6. How do people in your community help each other?

People in my community help each other by offering volunteer services. Like, take care of the pets of the neighbors when they have to work extra hours, keep an eye on the neighbor’s house when they are away on a trip, ask the neighbors whether they need anything before a convenience store run. These things may seem simple, but they are very important to others.

7. How do students, such as high-school students, help each other?

Students usually helpeach other with homework or help each other review final exams. Back in high school, I was pretty bad at math and I failed a bunch of times. So, I asked one of my classmates to tutor me. She actually enjoyed helping me with my study, and she said it also helped her review course materials. It was a win-win. I mean, students can save a lot of money by doing this, because they don't have to pay for extra classes on weekends.

1. Listen to yourself.

2. Slow down!

3. Picture it…

4. Get physical!

你发this, thank, they,和little, wool等单词困难吗?

5. Watch yourself.

6.Copy the experts.

7. Practice makes perfect.

8. Find a language buddy.
