One of the books that I have recently read is called At Home: A Short history of Private Life by an author called Bill Bryson. It is a thick, factual book about many different subjects. It is really a collection of information and anecdotes related to our private lives, past and present.

The book is mainly about things that have been included in our homes over the centuries. The author started out by wondering about the history of everything in his own home. As it is a factual book rather than a novel, it does not have a plot as such. Each chapter in the book covers the history of a particular room. For example, the chapter on the kitchen talks about the history of running water, electricity, gas cooking and so on. The chapter about the bathroom looks at the history of plumbing, sanitation and privacy. The book contains so much interesting information that I think I will have to read it again in order to take it all in.

As to the kind of people who would enjoy It, I think anybody who IS interested in history and enjoys learning lots of interesting facts would enjoy reading this book. It would also appeal to a busy person, as it is a good book to dip in and out of, because you don't have to follow a story, as you would with a novel. You can just take it chapter by chapter, or even page by page, as there is something to learn on every page. Each chapter is written like a story, even though it is a factual book, so it takes the reader to all sorts of unexpected places, and for me it was a real page-turner.

I like this book because I learned such a huge amount from it, which has made me look around my own home with different eyes and appreciate just how far we have come in a short space of time in terms of architecture, technology, lighting, comfort and many other things.

Cooking(new)

Have you ever cooked?

Do you like cooking?

Do you want to learn how to cook?

Is it difficult to cook Chinese food for you?

Have you ever cooked?

Yes, I did breakfast last summer. I still remember an accident when I was scrambledeggs. After heating and pouring the oil, I poured the eggs in. Suddenly, the hot oil in the pot spluttered out onto my hand. I was scalded, and the egg was also scorched. This is an unhappy experience of cooking.

突然,the hot oil in the pot spluttered out onto my hand.

Do you like cooking?

I love to cook, especially make breakfast. Because cooking has brought me a lot of sense of achievement. One day, I friedBaconand eggs, and made oatmeal in the morning. My parents were not only surprised that I could cook so many dishes, but also praised my delicious oatmeal. I felt very proud and learned a lot of experience at that time.

Do you want to learn how to cook?

I don't want to learn how to cook. First, I think I'm a poor chef. I've tried to cook many times, but all dishes tasted terrible. Secondly, my mother is good at cooking that she always refuses me to cook, because she thinks I will cause a lot of trouble. Third, I need to spend a lot of time on study, and I have many homework to do. So these are the reasons why I don't want to learn how to cook.

It is hard for me to cook Chinese food.First, it's hard to control the taste of Chinese food. Sometimes I made spicy fried chicken, but it always tasted salty or sweet. Second, the steps of Chinese cuisine are hard to remember. WhenImade spicy fried chicken, it was hard for me to remember the order of chicken and salt, which made the chicken dry. Third, Chinese cuisine takes a long time. I found that it takes a long time to make Chinese soup every time. To be honest, I don't have that much patience.

1.Are your friends mostly your age or different age? Why?

Most of my friends are my age and I have a few friends who are senior to me. The reason I have friends of my age is because they were mostly my classmates initially and then became my good friends. Majority of my friends are from my high school and college and that naturally make them to be my age.

2.Do you prefer one or two close friends or many friends?

When I was in my early teenage, I preferred many friends but nowadays I have few friends but they are very close to me. So I would say, I prefer having few close friends than having too many ordinary friends.

3.Do you usually see your friends during week or at weekends? Why?

I usually see my friends during weekends. Week days are busy days and after I get back home in the evening, I prefer to stay at home with my family members.

4.Do you prefer to stay alone or with your friends?

I usually prefer to be with my friends. However there are times when I need my personal time and in this case I prefer solitude rather than companies.

5.The last time you saw your friends, what did you do together?

Well, we played badminton together and had our dinner in a nearby restaurant. That’s the last thing I can recall doing with my friends and that would about a week ago.

6.What do you prefer: going out with your friends or spending your spare time staying at home?

That depends. Sometimes I prefer being with my friends and sometimes I prefer staying at home with my family members. I try to maintain a balance in terms of spending time with my friends and with my family. For example, while playing any outdoor sports, I prefer going out with friends.

7.Do you have many friends? Why? Why not?

As I've already said, I had many friends when I was in my high school. But these days I have comparatively fewer close friends.
