I grew up in Shanghai, and it's a huge city with a lot of outskirts and towns. On weekends, people who live in the city centre would drive to the suburban areas and spend their weekends there. Last year in October, after I finished all the final exams, I had a few days off. So my parents and I decided to go to someplace a little bit far from the city centre. Since we all had seen much the metropolitan side of the city, we wanted to try natural scenes this time. We went to the only mountain in Shanghai, Sheshan in Songjiang District. It is about 35 kilometres from the city centre, less populated with much more plants and better air. It is an enormous forest park with several smaller parks all in a cluster. We took a long walk around this big park. It was cool at that time so we felt really cosy walking around the park. We also climbed to the top of the mountain and visited the biggest Catholic Church there. Although the mountain is less than one hundred meters above the sea level, we still felt a little bit tired when we got to the church. We also went to Shanghai Astronomy Museum and finally reminisced about my childhood memories of becoming an astronomer. I don't dream about being a scientist anymore but seeing those planets and nebula and actually used the telescope to observe was still captivating. I’m going to describe my sister’s wedding day, which took place a few years ago in the town where I grew up. For my sister it was the biggest and most important day of her life.

I think there were around 100 people at the marriage ceremony, which was held in a church. Even more people came to the party, or the wedding reception as we call it, after the ceremony. Of course, most members of my family were there, as well as the groom’s family and a collection of the bride and groom's friends and colleagues.

To make the celebration special, we did what families normally do. My mother made sure that the church and the reception venue were nicely decorated - there were flowers everywhere! Obviously we all dressed for the occasion, and there were bridesmaids, gifts, a huge wedding cake, and so on.

I enjoyed the occasion because it was great to see my sister so happy on her big day. The ceremony was perfect, and we all had a fantastic time at the reception. It’s rare for me to see all of my family and friends together in one place, so that’s probably what made the day so memorable for me.
